General English for Life

Course overview

General English classes provide tuition in:

  • Grammar

  • Vocabulary

  • Listening

  • Speaking

  • Reading

  • Pronunciation

  • Writing

International House Newcastle uses communicative methodology so students learn to use English effectively, especially in the vital skills of speaking and listening!

Students may start their General English classes on any Monday.

 

Course details:

Students can choose 10 or 20 lessons of General English (GE) per week - or can combine GE with:

  • Personal Study Programme (PSP)

  • Academic English for IELTS (AE)

  • Business English (BE)

  • Cambridge Examination Courses (CE)

  • Internships

These classes are available at all levels - from complete beginner to advanced.

 

The Academic Director and teaching

staff:

  • assess each student with a written placement test and an oral interview

  • place each student in the correct level and class to learn English

  • monitor each student by continuous assessment, tutorials and internal tests

  • offer support and advice to students

  • are highly trained and quailified

  • have gained teaching and learning experience in different countries and understand the needs of language learners.

All students will receive:

  • weekly work plan devised by their teachers

  • weekly progress update

  • personal tutorials on a regular basis

  • course materials, including a study pack

Lessons and classes

Each lesson (teaching hour) is 55 minutes long, so there are scheduled break periods that take this into account.

Our general class size is 12 students maximum (8 students on average).

Minimum age of students for all courses is 16.
